Keskisuomalainen delivers news and advertising content to thousands of digital displays using Media Pocket. This solution significantly simplifies and optimizes both content management and distribution.

Keskisuomalainen is a versatile media powerhouse. It publishes over 100 media outlets and provides services in marketing communications, research, printing, and distribution. Its print and digital newspapers, digital outdoor advertising, and radio broadcasts reach 3.1 million Finns and an impressive 71% of the country’s population.

At the heart of its media business is Meks, a marketing service platform offering a variety of tools for advertising across the group’s media channels. For example, the group already operates 926 digital bus displays in Finland. Altogether, Meks manages over 2,000 digital outdoor screens – from Helsinki in the south to Kemijärvi in the north.

Managing content for such a media giant is a massive operation. Keskisuomalainen needed a solution to manage and distribute digital content from multiple content providers. The materials include (HTML) ads, videos, images, and news content.

What is CDN?

CDN stands for Content Delivery Network, a globally distributed network of servers designed to deliver content quickly and efficiently. By storing files in the cache memory of CDN servers, the network ensures that content is available to users at high speed, no matter where they are.

In practice, the workflow is simple: once content is uploaded to Media Pocket, it generates a link that can be used to distribute the material to the desired display. The file remains cached for a set period. After that, the link can automatically update, allowing you to change the linked content if needed.

Keskisuomalainen utilizes Media Pocket to manage and distribute various rich media productions. When a dynamic ad campaign is created for example for buses, the ad materials are hosted directly from Media Pocket into the outdoor advertising content management system.

This enables CDN links generated from Media Pocket to function as ad assets themselves: they are automatically added to the outdoor advertising system’s playlist, and the web-based ad is displayed on the bus screen at the right time.
