HD Outdoor Production Car
The HD outdoor production car built by Media Tailor (formerly TV Tools) for IRR-TV is very compact and efficient. The extra-long MB Sprinter standard body has a fully equipped production unit for five HD cameras.
The cameras are Sony’s HXC-100 digital triax series. In addition to the control handles, the camera control includes a Sony HD tube monitor and a Tektronics videoscope. The mixer in the car is Ross ’Crossover16 and the graphics are created and run out on Harris’ TitleOne. The recording is handled with three AJA KiPro hard disk recorders or, if desired, with the FinalCutPro edit installed directly in the car. The multi-image splitter and car “Glue” is from Evertz. For ever-changing conversion needs, the car features AJA’s FS1 Multiconverters.
The customer also wanted the audio side to be “more robust”. Both the driver’s and passenger’s seats swivel 180 degrees and form luxurious workstations for the audio recorder and graphic designer / editor / producer. The sound table in the car is a Yamaha 56-channel 02R96 digital mixer to which 2 Yamaha 16in x 8out stage boxes can be connected. The boxes are connected to the car using the Ethersound protocol, ie one Cat cable. The sound table is also built-in for 32-channel ProTools for more demanding recording situations. All car computers are connected to a KVM switch, which allows the machines to be operated from two different locations.
In addition to the panels of the external connections and the electrical center, there is a suitable transport space in the rear of the car where the necessary accessories can be placed for a “normal” gig. The need for additional transport is served by a trailer or a separate car. The power supply is handled with a 3x16A or three light cables. The entire car’s electricity is backed up by two UPS’s, which keep the car in production condition for about 20 minutes in the case of a power failure.
The car’s own technology is also state-of-the-art with its reversing cameras and dimmable LED lights. It has two separate air conditioners, one for the machines and one for the people. As a bonus, the 3.5-meter-long and 2.5-meter-wide electric canopy with walls on the right side provides comfortable extra work space while raining.
