New Performance and Production System

Helsinki’s Svenska Teatern underwent a complete renovation and restoration, still respecting the old. However, the technology was completely renewed in which Media Tailor (formerly TV Tools) was involved.

Finland’s first Riedel MediorNet signal routing system was built in Svenska Teatern. The six-node system handles the routing of all video signals related to theater performances. Six nodes are installed around the theater, in connection with each production point, and connected to each other by optical fiber.

The connection topology of the Riedel Mediornet system is free. The number of fiber connections required depends on the amount of signal required. MediorNet network appears and acts like a single big matrix for the user. Once the signal is connected to the system, it can be routed to any point, including several outputs (point to multi-point).

MediorNet also performs up / down / cross SD / HD conversions, quad split, and audio de- and embedding. Each channel has a frame synchronizer and a test picture and sound. Any of the nodes in the system can act as a pulse center for the system, either by making the pulse itself or by receiving it from an external pulse center.

The theater’s stage area is captured with Panasonic’s remote-controlled cameras. Camera signals or mixed image signals are recorded directly to the DVS SpycerBox SAN using Softron MovieRecorder software and the AJA Io XT interface.

Image signals are occasionally used in the theatre performances, in which case they are distributed via MediorNet to projectors, monitors or RF modulators elsewhere in the house. MediorNet’s delay of only 0.5 milliseconds also allows it to be used to route image signals from the conductor’s camera and all monitors in the orchestra area and on stage.

The theater’s intercom system is Riedel’s. Wireless belt drives based on Dect technology are part of the Riedel Acrobat system and wired Partyline belt drives and panels are from the Performer series. Analog “motorola” radios are integrated into the system with RiFace technology and the entire intercom is linked by a Riedel Artist command matrix with panels.
