Reality Productions’ Tools
At the end of 2011, Moskito Television, a long-time customer of Media Tailor (former TV Tools), approached with an interesting project. Production of a new documentary reality series was about to begin, which would follow the lives of six women for six months. In the Iholla (On the Skin) series, the women themselves would act as photographers.
Media Tailor and the production team designed together a workflow in which the material filmed by the women was first transferred to a centralized disk system and converted to a more editable format. There was a lot of material coming in each week, about 40 hours. About 20 000 clips of the material were made during the period, so accurate and customized metadata profiles were built to log them. Such a large amount of material was well-managed and the compilation of episodes could focus on the essential – telling a story. Logging and media management were handled with the CatDV media management system.
The Iholla series became a multi-season success. The second season men’s lives were followed instead of women. In addition to Iholla production, the same system has been used successfully in Survivors, Viidakko Tähtöset and, most recently, Dancing On Ice.
“The collaboration with TV Tools enabled a new kind of workflow that allowed us to manage a large amount of material with a small production team.”
