TaaS and ELEMENTS Deliver an Unrivaled Solution for Kuvi

Kuvi (Department of Audiovisual Culture) needed an exceptionally powerful yet effortless solution for their heavy image sequence workflows. Media Tailor’s TaaS (Technology as a Service) model, combined with ELEMENTS ONE, provided exactly that. Knowing that a partner is always easily accessible has been a huge relief.

Knowledge is bliss.

This twist on an old proverb perfectly captures the TaaS partnership between Kuvi and Media Tailor.

Kuvi’s core mission is to promote art and culture and elevate their role in society both nationally and regionally. A vital part of this work involves archiving Finland’s national film, television, and radio heritage.

Processing massive DPX image sequences scanned from old film reels involves exceptionally heavy workflows. As their legacy system began to age, Kuvi went looking for a high-performance solution that could be seamlessly integrated into their existing infrastructure.

The ideal solution came from Media Tailor and their long-term partner, ELEMENTS. One of the German company’s flagship products, ELEMENTS ONE, unifies multiple functionalities into a single, comprehensive, and scalable storage solution.

ELEMENTS is invisible to us. We don’t have to think about it at all. Nobody has to check first thing every morning if there are red lights blinking, if the connection is live, or if they can work while someone else is rendering.

TaaS brings peace of mind and frees up time for what matters most

Kuvi utilizes Media Tailor’s TaaS model, which includes the ELEMENTS-based production storage system as well as its ongoing maintenance and customer support. While the hardware could have been purchased standalone, the benefits of the service partnership made the choice remarkably easy.

Previous solutions and vendors demanded a lot of time and effort from Kuvi. In the worst-case scenarios, they had to deal directly with a factory or customer support located halfway across the world.

Choosing the TaaS model was driven by the fact that we simply don’t have the in-house resources or expertise for autonomous maintenance—especially given our experience with previous, less reliable setups. Having dependable, local Finnish support and partner in our own time zone was absolutely crucial for us.

And the setup has been an absolute success: ELEMENTS has performed so flawlessly that Kuvi hasn’t encountered a single issue. And none are on the horizon. Knowing support is always close by brings peace of mind, even without any problems.

Thanks to this, the collaboration with Media Tailor has run as smoothly as a golden-age Finnish film classic.

We haven’t received a single support ticket since the system went live. That speaks volumes about the sheer power of ELEMENTS, when even what is arguably the heaviest image sequence workflow in Finland can’t slow it down.
